Have you ever been SO excited about something you’re learning that you just couldn’t contain yourself? That’s exactly how I was (and still am) when I began discovering the connection between our food choices and our health.
Soon after I told God “If you let me live, I’ll live for You.” (see last post), I not only became hungry for God’s word, I also couldn’t learn enough about health and wellness – especially nutrition.
In fact, I started a little ministry called Healthy Moms, Healthy Families. I wrote a curriculum, invited my neighbors over, and talked their ear off about how what we eat affects our health.
I sent out a newsletter (blogs weren’t invented yet), wrote magazine articles, did speaking gigs at MOPS groups and such. I was even interviewed on the radio a couple of times and I self-published a book. I also ran a grocery club out of our garage facilitating orders for families to split cases of natural foods.
In other words, God planted a desire in my heart and I absolutely loved coming alongside women to help them make wellness a way of life. (And I still do).
I ran that little ministry for five years…and then I felt God asking me to let it all go. In hindsight, He had some work to do in me – I needed to be pruned, refined, and prepared for my next step. And He had so much He wanted to teach me. So I shut it down.
And then He drew me into one of the most fruitful seasons of my life. Don’t get me wrong, to most people it looked like I was doing absolutely nothing. I’d drop my kids off at their three-day-a-week school, drive home, sit down at my piano, and play one song – singing all six verses – over and over.
Take My Life and Let It Be Consecrated Lord to Thee (listen here)
Then I’d sit at my dining room table and dive into God’s word. I read, I studied, I journaled. I couldn’t get enough. He was showing me SO many things, connecting so many dots and tying it all together with science (how He made the world to work) in a way I had never seen before.
Now hear me: I didn’t do this because someone told me to – and I’m not sharing this as a formula for you to follow. This is simply how God led me. He will lead you in a way that is perfect for you.
- He invites you into a transformational process for you to become who He created you to be.
- He equips you to do what He designed you to do.
- Why: so you can thrive and enjoy the abundant life He’s given you!
You do that, by the way, by glorifying Him – revealing His character and presence to the world – by being fully who you are. This was foundational to how we went about raising our children with regard to education…but that’s another story…
I had no idea I’d be at the dining room table for nearly three years! All I knew was that I couldn’t wait to find out what He was going to show me each day. I think back on that time with such gratitude. So much of how I mentor women and teens now in Wellness Warriors was rooted and established in me during those years. There would be no fruit in this season if the seeds hadn’t been planted back then.
The same is true for you my friends. We are all a work in progress. None of us will be perfect this side of heaven but we can certainly be moving in that direction!
Wellness Warriors – my course that helps women thrive in spirit, soul, and body – will be starting again this fall. I’d love to have you join me and an incredible tribe of ladies who are on a mission to make wellness a way of life for themselves and their families. More info coming soon!
